Appliance Recycling

Many appliances especially refrigerators and freezers have become much more efficient under the EPA rules. In fact refrigerators built in 1985 are 1/3 as efficient as today's average refrigerators.  If you want to find out how much you can save, see the Detroit Edison 'Flip my Refrigerator Calculator' So what do you do with your old refrigerator? Don't put it in the garage or basement to cool a six pack or hold ice cream, get rid of it. Detroit Edison will cart away your old refrigerator or freezer and mail you a $50 check (see the DTE Recycling site to sign up.)

Other appliances that have become much more efficient include air conditioners, humidifiers, furnace and boilers, water heaters and dishwashers. Follow the links to find out if there are rebates available for these appliances and check for lighting discounts also.
